Angelina Jolie Honored by British Government

I have to admit Angelina Jolie has really impressed me this week with her commitment to the cause. Its nice to see famous people genuinely interested in helping others rather than making themselves look good.

LONDON — Angelina Jolie, who is special envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, has been honored by the British government for her work to end sexual violence in war zones.

Jolie was in London this week attending a major conference that is looking to tackle this issue.

Jolie, who was awarded an honorary damehood, was among several entertainment figures to be feted as part of Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday celebrations.

Thesp Daniel Day-Lewis (“There Will Be Blood”) was made a knight, and actress Maggie Smith (“Downton Abbey”) became a Companion of Honor.

Damian Lewis, the one-time star of “Homeland,” received the Order of the British Empire.
